| I have changed the
above name of this piece to the more simplified M51
105mm Gun Barrel, because the label on the
MicroWorld package just is not correct. They label this
as the Isherman M51 Giat CN D1514 L44 cal 105mm,
which has several errors. First of all, the Israelis
never referred to this tank as the Isherman, and I'm not
entirely sure why it bothers me so much that people
continue to use that name. It just sounds to me like an
attempt to make the name sound Jewish, which really bugs
me. Anyway, it also was not designated as D1514, but
rather D1504. These parts are perfectly milled and printed, and I'll tell you what I like most about this set: this is the first representation of this gun that I think gets the scale of the muzzle brake correct. Granted, this is a BIG muzzle brake, but those depicted in the resin conversion sets we have available to us, and the plastic part in the Trumpeter Sherman Revalorise kit are FAR too massive. The resin part in this set scales out almost perfectly to the drawings in the Lioness and Lion of the Line series of books. I'm very pleased that we finally have an accurate gun to use on our M51 projects.
